Vitamin B-5 (Pantothenic Acid)
Type: Vitamin
Vitamin B-5 (Pantothenic Acid) is a water-soluble vitamin that is responsible for a wide variety of bodily functions, including metabolism and supporting the breakdown of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins for energy production.
Being water-soluble, Vitamin B-5 cannot be stored in the body as it dissolves in water and can easily leave the body via urine. As a result, it is important to have a constant supply of vitamin B-5 in our diet. Common food sources include meat, dairy products, whole grains, and legumes.
Vitamin B-5 is essential for the synthesis of coenzyme A, a chemical compound that helps enzymes build and break down fatty acids as well as perform other metabolic functions. It also support healthy skin by promoting the production of skin cells and supporting the synthesis of collagen and elastin. Signs of lacking Vitamin B-5 includes headache, fatigue, irritability and gastrointestinal problems.
