Lingzhi (Ganoderma Lucidum)
Other Name: Reishi Mushroom
Type: Fungus
Lingzhi is both an edible mushroom and medicinal fungi by itself. Commonly known as the "Herb of Spiritual Potency", Lingzhi is highly regarded as one of the most effective herbs in TCM. In Japan, it is known as Reishi, while in Korea, it is known as Youngchi.
Lingzhi has a long history in Traditional Chinese Medicine. It's first usage was recorded in the Herbal Pharmacopoeia and the Compendium of Materia Medica by famous physician Li Shi Zhen, who describes it as having a positive effect on the three treasures of TCM - Jing (essence), Qi (vital energy) and Shen (spirit).
Lingzhi fortify and regularise body function, boosting immunity and energy over time. A comprehensive medicinal staple, Lingzhi can impact body agility, health and sleep quality.
The best Lingzhi mushrooms are cultivated in a natural and pollution-free environment to yield higher bioactive compounds. Lingzhi extract can now be readily found over the counter, making it easily accessible to the public compared to the past.
Lingzhi extract is prepared using processing methods such as extraction, concentration, drying and crushing of Lingzhi fruiting bodies. However, long term consumption of Lingzhi extract does not necessarily mean that you are getting the maximum nutrients of Lingzhi, as Lingzhi extract lacks the beneficial components of Lingzhi Spore oil, oleic acid, linoleic acid and other unsaturated fatty acids. The polysaccharides in Lingzhi extract are also larger compared to Lingzhi Cracked Spores powder, making it more difficult for the body to absorb with an obvious bitter taste. This makes Lingzhi extract a cheaper but less potent version of Lingzhi Spores powder.
