Fucoidan
Fucoidan is a sulfated polysaccharide, the active compound found mainly in brown seaweeds. Fucoidan's nutritional value has been widely researched to benefit cellular health and optimal functioning of the immune and circulatory systems.
The richest type of brown seaweeds is called mozuku, found in Okinawa Japan. Mozuku contains the highest concentration of fucoidan, compared to other types of brown seaweeds and is rich in calcium, iodine, zinc, iron, selenium and other essential minerals. It is found to provide protection and lower one's cancer risks.
Studies have shown its effectiveness in:
1. Promoting destruction of abnormal/mutated cells
2. Discourage formation of new blood vessels that supply nutrients to tumor cells, therefore slowing its spread
3. Increase our immune cells, which play a role in detecting and destroying abnormal cells
Therefore, fucoidan is a nutrient that is popular among those who require cancer management, or for cancer survivors to lower his/her risks of relapsing.
